LIVEJOURNAL ICONS

I've recently been obsessed with making icons for my Livejournal, so here are all of the ones I've made so far for your viewing pleasure. Please don't take these without asking me. You'll find that most of these icons either have a Macross or L'Arc~en~Ciel theme to them...and if you go look at my LJ, you'll see why XD

ANIME ICONS

AI WA NAGARERU
Macross

Lynn Minmay from SDF Macross (the movie Ai Oboete imasu ka?) and the SDF Macross in the background. I was really lucky to find that sunset picture of it, and it works really well with the icon I think. Lyrics from Minmay's Ai wa Nagareru, obviously.

ASK DNA
Cowboy Bebop

I had fun with this one. The effects took me a bit longer than expected because I wasn't quite sure what I wanted, but in the end the stained-glass filter with a bit of tweaking on the text turned out fine. I wanted a picture of Faye with a gun, since Ask DNA reminds me of Cosmic Dare for some reason. But I think it fits anyway.

BEAUTY & STUPID
Shoujo Kakumei Utena

A blog layout that got turned into an icon because I liked it so much. The hide song fits this Anthy and Akio picture so perfectly it would be a shame not to use it. XD

EIEN NO TOBIRA
Gundam 08th MS Team

Cool pic of Shiro and his Gundam from the series. The icon was originally like this but I gave it a facelift in .png form, which I think really made it turn out nice. The lyrics are from the movie ending theme Eien no Tobira.

I WANT TO SAVE YOU
Versailles no Bara

Oscar and Andre, Iconage for Maria, which I think needs an overhaul of some sort. I embarked on the original concept with good intentions but I"m not quite sure what happened. I think I tried to use too many layers.

INFORMATION HIGH
Macross Plus

This was once the splash page picture for my fanfiction site Landover. I took it down after I changed the layout and found the picture recently, thought it would make a good icon, and edited it a bit to make it fit. I'm rather proud of this - it's the YF-19 and Sharon Apple, with lyrics from After, In The Dark.

LIGHT THE LIGHT
Macross Zero

I'm very proud of this icon. It's Sara Nome from Macross Zero, lyrics from Macross 7's Light the Light. Not only is this a GREEN icon, something different from my usual red/fire or blue phase, but I really like the lighting on it. I'm not quite sure how I did it and don't think I could do it again if you asked, so...yeah.

KOKORO GA TOMARANAI
Macross 7

An excellent shot of Mylene from one of the promo posters/artbooks, playing bass as the Fire Valkyrie flies overhead. I think this one turned out better than I expected, which is always a good thing. Lyrics from the rather obscure Jewelry song Kokoro ga Tomaranai.

MACROSS ZERO
Macross Zero

This is just one of the DVD covers for the series...I think it is the first one. All I did was crop it.

THE REAL FOLK BLUES
Cowboy Bebop

My attempt at a surreal-ish Ballad of Fallen Angels/Green Bird/Adieu icon, with Julia's silhouette, the rose, and a cigarette. It's a little dark, though.

REMEMBER LOVE
Macross Plus

I love doing cross-series icons, and this one is one of them. Still within the Macross universe, but the picture is from Macross Plus, where Isamu reaches out a hand to the sky like a plane. Lyrics are from Ai Oboete Imasu ka? (Macross movie). I especially like the drop shadow effect behind the main picture.

SAINAN NO KEKKA
Gundam Wing

QS and I have been lucky to get great fanart for our Gundam Wing fanfiction Sainan no Kekka, and I just cropped an illustration we got of one of our Preventers characters, Major Li, and made it into an icon. It orginally looked like this but I redid it for our SnK icons page.

SANDS OF TIME
Fushigi Yuugi

I think this icon is one of my all time favorites. It took a long time to get right, but the effect is really cool, I think. Lyrics from X Japan's Say Anything, picture from one of my favorite artworks of Nakago and Soi.

SECRET GARDEN
Shoujo Kakumei Utena

I think this one's kind of creepy. In a good way. XD Um...obviously Mikage. Lyrics from Gackt's Secret Garden.

SERAPHITUS
Shoujo Kakumei Utena

The default icon for my fanfiction LJ, Seraphitus. I got the idea from Tsuchiya Ruka's duel chorus, Tenshi Androgynous, which references the legend of Seraphitus/Seraphita. I confess I really picked the name because it sounded cool more than for any literary value, but this icon is based off Ruka's color scheme, blue/purple. There is a blue rose in the middle (though it's a little hard to tell), surrounded by white "wing" looking swirls that were supposed to be angelic...it came out looking more randomly artsy than symbolic, but I like it. XD

SHINSOU
Fushigi Yuugi

A closeup of my Seiryuu seishi FSTcover, Yui in priestess garb. "Shinsou" is the title of a Dir en grey song from their "Kisou" album, meaning "Shinto Funeral" (lit. "god burial"), which I thought was pretty dead-on for a Seiryuu FST.

SOLITARY DRAGON
Gundam Wing

Chang Wufei and Shenlong Gundam from Gundam Wing. The Chinese character ("long3") means "dragon." (and is the second kanji in the compound making up "Shenlong")

SOUND FORCE
Macross 7

Nekki Basara's Fire Valkyrie in combat with some Elgerzorene that you can't see. It's cool art from somewhere that I don't know. One of my earlier icons that needs to get revamped. I really love the picture but it's not a very good icon.

STAY TOGETHER
Fushigi Yuugi

Amiboshi and Suboshi from Fushigi Yuugi. The song is from Fruits Basket, but I really thought it fit the two Seiryuu seishi when I wanted to do an icon from the lyrics.

SUBMARINE STREET
Macross 7

Nekki Basara from a photobook picture. The text is lyrics from the Fire Bomber song Submarine Street

TO BE FIRE
Macross 7

As each Macross 7 episode ends, there's a "to be continued" at the bottom of the screen. After episode 49, the last episode, there's a blank screen and it reads "...to be fire." The flaming guitar is the same graphic used on the splash page of my Macross 7 fanpage (Totsugeki Love Heart).

TORI NO HITO
Macross Zero

The best thing about Macross Zero is the mystic "tribal" feel of a lot of its music. I tried to capture that in this icon as best as I could while linking Zero to the rest of the Macross universe. The "bird-human" artwork from the OST cover is juxtaposed with Max's VF-22 Blue Gazer from Macross 7.

TONARI NO TOTORO
This little (or big XD) guy is one of the best anime characters ever. I recently rewatched the movie and just had to make an icon, cause he rocks.

TOTSUGEKI LOVE HEART
Macross 7

Nekki Basara and Totsugeki Love Heart - a great combo if there ever was one! I turned up the contrast and brightness way high on this one to try and achieve a "fire" effect. Now looking at it, perhaps it was a little too high, but still, I'm happy with this one.

VF-11 VALKYRIE
Macross

VF-11 Veritech fighter, from Macross/Macross 7. My favorite part of this icon is how the katakana text at the bottom blends in with the English - very cool.

WATASHI MIRAI KAKO GENZAI
Shoujo Kakumei Utena

Miki's third duel chorus, with pictures from the sunlit garden. I like the text on here, but the icon is a little busy.

WING ZERO
Gundam Wing

Uh...it's Wing Zero from Gundam Wing. >.> Yeah.

YF-19 PROTOTYPE
Macross Plus

This is my present default icon for my Macross-themed layout. I first found this image as a wallpaper - it's from the scene in Macross Plus #4 where Isamu is racing towards Earth to stop the Ghost Fighter and he's in fold. Such awesome CG work.

JROCK/JPOP ICONS

BEAT OF THE RISING SUN
Every Little Thing

Dave Rodger's eurobeat song Beat of the Rising Sun from Initial D made me think of ELT's PV for Future World, where the screencaps for this icon are from. Unfortunately, I think the lighting filters looked better on my laptop than they do when transferring this icon to the internet. I still like it, but it'll probably get redone.

BIG MACHINE
B'z

I made this to commemorate the release of B'z's new album, Big Machine, in September 2003. It's basically just a promo poster for the album that I found online, with the album cover and then title and "B'z" under it.

D'ARC~EN~CIEL
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Since the name of my LJ is "darcenciel," I made this icon to...commemorate it. The guy in the middle is of course Ogawa Tetsuya, bassist of L'Arc~en~Ciel. For all you uneducated, "D'Arc~en~Ciel" is the name of the "secret band" that Laruku liked to make sometimes, with Tetsu on vocal, Hyde on guitar, Sakura on bass, and Ken on drums.

DIVE TO BLUE
L'Arc~en~Ciel

All the images here are from Hyde's Siesta Film. There's a silver shackle with some blood underneath it (you can't see the blood, but there was some in the screencap) and then the back picture is Hyde falling from the window. Yeah, cheerful. Dive to Blue is of course a Laruku song.

FIERTE NO UMI TO TOMO NI KIYU
Lareine

Inspired by Lareine's concept album of the same name, I took some pictures of the ocean and some wings and stuck them together. "Fierte" in French means "pride."

FIFTEEN HALF
Tetsu69

I made this when Tetsu's 15 1/2 single came out. I don't remember where I got the picture, but it's a very nice introspective sort of pose, perfect for the text.

FLOWER
L'Arc~en~Ciel

A collection of screenshots of all four band members from the Flower PV. Very...surreal, I think.

L'ARC~EN~CIEL
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Just an icon of the band from the cover of Heart and the apple from Niji.

MISCAST
X Japan

Requestd by Laurel, an X Japan icon. I was going for the effect of not having pictures of the band in there, but still having someone who knew enough about X to relate.

MISSING
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Ok, a kind of weird mixing of jrock songs and people, but I've done it before. The picture is Tetsu from some magazine spread, which I then ran through some color filters in Photoshop and stuck the text on, inspired by Gackt's song Missing.

MOON
Gackt

Promo art for Moon something (I don't know what). The thing that caught me about this picture was the colors - especially the big purple and white moon - and the wings on Gackt's back are very fantasy art-ish. This icon originally looked like this and I redid it.

NIJI #1: STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
L'Arc~en~Ciel

The first icon in the 4-part Niji set. The screencaps to this are from Tetsu's Siesta Film, where he stops at the tower to pick up the water-gun shooting girl. You can barely see the car in the lower right-hand corner (black blob thing).

NIJI #2: LABYRINTH TO HEART
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Second icon in Niji set, screencap from Niji PV when the girl passes the magnifying glass over the blue butterfly.

NIJI #3: DARE YORI TAKAKU
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Third icon in Niji set, screencap from the first few frames of the Kasou PV.

NIJI #4: SUBETE WA SHINJITSU TO TOMO NI ARU
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Fourth icon in Niji set, screencap from guitar-burning scene in the Niji PV, and the lyrics on this are my favorite part of the song.

ONE LOVE
Glay

Inspired completely by Glay's song Global Communication and their album One Love. I really love the message they are trying to get across in both works, so I tried to infuse that into this icon. It took me a while to get the blue and white text just right so it fit around the world. I use this icon when I'm feeling especially sappy and friends-y

PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Core of Soul

I stole this icon from my wallpaper and also blog layout of Nakamura Fukiko of the jpop group CORE OF SOUL. It's a great blog layout and wallpaper but I'm not sure how much I like it as an icon. Must be why I don't use it much.

SUISOU
Plastic Tree

Another blog layout-turned-icon for one of my favorite Pura Turi songs. "Suisou" means "burial at sea" or "water burial," which is why you have the creepy monochrome fish swimming around with the random trees. >.> Now that I look at it, it seems rather Blair Witch Project.

TAIJI
X (Japan)

The legendary bassist of Japan's legendary rock band. Obviously if you know me, you'll already know that Taiji is my favorite X member and so deserves an icon of his own. I like the blending of the layers as well as the transparent parts of the icon, though Laurel isn't too fond of it. XD

TRICK
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Cool picture of Ken with a machine gun - I think this is Heavenly-era or so. Trick is their cool song found on the album Ray.

SHINSHOKU ~LOSE CONTROL~
L'Arc~en~Ciel

This is Ken from his Siesta Film when he shoots the girl after they have sex. The lyrics are (obviously) from Shinshoku. Made in the same vein as my Niji icons.

SIAM SHADE
I didn't do much for this icon, but I love the picture. It's the Siam Shade logo scanned from the back of the Siam Shade V album art in the booklet, and whoever thought up this logo needs an award. It's that awesome.

TETSU #1
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Uncreative name, but this was the first icon I ever made. Originally, my LJ was made to be a journal for my roleplay of Tetsu in the Jrock Roleplay community, so I found the first picture of him that was decently scanned, cropped it, and uploaded it as an icon. I decided that I was rather fond of it, so this was my default picture for the longest time, until I changed my LJ to a Macross theme and got rid of it.

TETSU #2
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Another one of those quick icons that I made when I first joined LJ for RP. This was actually inspired by one of Neesan's icons, one that she had for her default icon for the longest time.

TETSU #3
L'Arc~en~Ciel

This was my "crazy" icon for RP. That's the last of the Tetsu RP icons (I had a free account at the time so I could only have 3). I made other Tetsu icons, but I only ever really used these three.

TIME GOES BY
Every Little Thing

This is a conglomeration of screencaps from ELT's Time Goes By PV. It's a really nicely done PV - maybe not the most creative in the world, but it had really cool sets, and the song is one of my favorite ELT songs.

WHITE FEATHERS
L'Arc~en~Ciel

Hyde's Siesta ~film of dreams~ film has some great iconage screenshots. This is another one from that film of the bird/girl flying out the window as Hyde sleeps. If you've read the lyrics to White Feathers from "Tierra", you'll see that most of the film is based directly off those lyrics, so it was only appropriate that I use something from that song for the text here (though "makes wings" is only whispered by Hyde, not sung, and therefore not in the lyrics...)

MOVIE ICONS

GALACTIC IMPERIUM
Star Wars

I made this around the time the second Star Wars movie came out. It's the Imperial Crest from the original movies. I haven't used it very much though...

STAY TOGETHER
Moon Child

The Moon Child version of the Furuba Stay Together icon. Obviously if you've seen the movie, you'll recognize this picture of the friends on the beach. I like the aged paper/photo effect of this.

THE SOUL CAGES
Moon Child

A collage of images from Moon Child: Yi-Che painting, Sho and Kei from right before the last showdown. Lyrics from the Sting song.

PLACE ICONS

CHEUNG CHAU
Cheung Chau is one of the outlying islands of Hong Kong where my grandparents live. This is the view that you first see when your ferry pulls into the harbor. It looks all nice and Asian and ethnic till you get closer and see the big McDonald's sign welcoming you to the village XD.

HAKONE
One of Japan's famous picturesque spots. I took this picture coming across the lake by boat, as we passed the torii gate.

HIROSHIMA
The A-bomb dome is the first building in the long line of monuments and buildings around Hiroshima's Peace Park. Very solemn.

HONG KONG BY NIGHT
Awesome picture of the Hong Kong shoreline at night. Pictures can't do justice to how incredible this city looks when it's all lit up like that. You've got to see for yourself.

HONG KONG: LIVE IT, LOVE IT!
The Hong Kong Christmas 2004 icon. This is a picture of the neon sign in front of the HUGE christmas tree by the Star Ferry pier in Central. Did I mention HUGE christmas tree?

IKEBUKURO
I made this icon for Neesan, with a random collage of pictures that I took when we went to Ikebukuro. Top right is Sunshine City, the big mall there. The middle is the train station, and then the bottom with the man feeding the pigeons is the area in front of the station between the two roads.

ODAIBA
Another Neesan icon, this one of Tokyo's beach/resort/play area. Picture is one I took of Rainbow Bridge from the Joypolis Decks.

OSAKA
Osaka, Japan. I'm quite fond of this picture of Osaka-jo - the colors are just as stunning on the real thing, if you haven't been there.

SHIBUYA
My favorite Tokyo hangout spot. Shibuya, as well as its sister city Harajuku has a lot of fond memories for me, and pretty much embodies all of what I think of Tokyo to be: traffic jams, neon lights, fashion overload, and music paradise. XD

WE LOVE HONG KONG
My Hong Kong Christmas 2003 icon. The background lighted neon was actually one of the neon displays around the harbor. This icon looks better on dark backgrounds so you can see the drop shadow, but unfortunately most friends pages icon boxes on LJ are either white or light-colored.

YOYOGI STADIUM
I was wandering around Harajuku and taking pictures with my keitai and took this one of Yoyogi. It was such a good shot that I turned it into an icon. How about that? XD

MISCELLANEOUS ICONS

AIR FORCE
United States Air Force symbol, taken from the official Air Force webpage

GACKT'S SPLEEN
Go here. XD

HONBA
Runaway Horses
After reading Mishima Yukio's masterpiece Runaway Horses, I had to make an icon. I think these horses are actually Chinese, not Japanese, but oh well. XD

KOHI-GOKORO
Don't ask.

MIDNIGHT REVOLUTION
A smaller picture of the logo I created for MidnightRevolution.org. I haven't uploaded this one at all yet.

MILK TEA
Original quote from Neesan. I just took it and ran with it. XD Kirin milk tea is good for you!

NEW BALANCE
New Balance is the key to airpower.
