QUICKSILVER

I've written in a lot of fandoms- actually, I got my start in Highlander almost five years ago, and since then, I've produced a lot of work, some good, some bad. I hope this GW fic counts as a good one. This is my first attempt at a GW fic, so I hope you'll all bear with me. I'd like to thank Gerald- while I admit it was my idea that we start a GW fanfic and I provided the general concept, he was the one who took it by the teeth and ran with it; he's the energy and creative genius behind the interesting bits. He's a genuine dynamo.

I was introduced to GW in 1999. I happened to pick up a tape at a fansubber (who I later found was very disreputable- I didn't know it was commercial). Though I admit I wasn't that impressed when I started out(I'm not a big mecha fan), I did get hooked about six months later by rewatching the tape and thinking about all of the consequences.

In GW, I find a world of amazing consideration, political ties, characters with complex and confusing motivations, and, of course, the wonderful Gundams themselves. My favorite characters are Quatre, Duo, Sally, Dorothy and Lady Une. I detest Treize and Zechs; that's one of the reasons Ger and I compliment each other so well. Our styles are very different, and it's a challenge to attempt to merge them.

I'm currently employed as an Americorps worker- my current site is a museum, where I get to work directly wth the artifacts. I love to read, write, ice skate and act. I'm also an avid anime fan. I tend towards the shoujo animes. Aside from GW, other favorites of mine are Kodomo no Omocha, Fushigi Yuugi, Sailor Moon, Inu Yasha, CLAMP Campus Detectives, Yu Yu Hakushu, Marmalade Boy and Weiss Kreuz.

The reason I started this was because I was curious about the after effects of the war. I agree with Ger on the main problem with GW fic- I have nothing against yaoi, but the anime itself does not support it. Each of the males clearly has a female counterpart- not all of them are romantic, but Hilde/Duo and Heero/Relena is hard to deny (not that I AGREE with those couples, mind you).

Up until the fall of 2000 I was almost excusively a member of the Fushigi Yuugi fanfiction community. Gundam Wing was the first real fanfiction project I've done outside of Fushigi Yuugi fanfiction and short Weiss Kreuz fanfiction/vignettes. At this point, it's a lot of fun and I wish I'd done this sooner. Which brings me to thank Quicksilver for pulling me into the project, since I could have never thought up this myself.

I first saw Gundam Wing in the summer of 2000. My favorite Gundam Wing characters are Heero Yuy, Chang Wufei, Trowa Barton, and Zechs Merquise, the Lightning Baron. I have always had a thing for villains, anime or otherwise, and Zechs is just too great a villain to pass up. As for Heero and Wufei, I identify with them a great deal, which is probably why I find them the easiest GW characters for me to write. Ironically, SnK is pretty much the only Gundam Wing fanfic I've ever written, and I don't see myself writing any more. It took a lot out of me XD

When I'm not immersed in the world of Gundam, I do watch other anime and do other things (hard to imagine, I know.) My favorite anime series is Macross 7 and I consider myself more a shounen anime fan than a shoujo one. I also love Star Wars and fantasy/sci-fi stuff in general. Music-wise, I listen mostly to Japanese and Chinese music, and my favorite music group is L'Arc~en~Ciel.

In order to make my bio longer and more pointless, I'll state some pet peeves about Gundam Wing fanfiction that I have. My main objection to most of the GW fics out there is that they don't really pertain to the series. For a shounen series, the Gundam Wing fanfiction community contains an awful lot of shoujo-style romantic/yaoi fanfiction. In fact, GW has the highest concentration of yaoi fics I've ever seen for anime series. I don't mind romantic or yaoi fanfiction (I do write and read Fushigi Yuugi fanfiction, after all), but after reading what the net has to offer on GW, I don't feel connected to the series. That's partly why I decided to work on Sainan no Kekka, as it would offer a more "Gundam" approach to GW fanfic.
