It is the year AC 196, one year after the end of the Great War. The Earth, with the help of a new world government, has begun rebuilding. The old colonies have rebounded from the war's devastation. New colonies are springing up in neighboring planetary systems. Trade and technology are flourishing at pre-war heights, and the long-lost Cinq Kingdom, led by Relena Darlian Peacecraft, is quickly establishing itself as one of the great nations of the world.

In this world of new and sometimes terrifying change, the five pilots who fought so valiantly for the change have gone back to their private lives, longing to forget that the war ever happened. Quatre Raberba Winner is heir to the Winner estate and one of the most visible figureheads of the new era. Trowa Barton has returned to his beloved circus, once again taking up the roving life of a performer. As for the other three pilots, their whereabouts are now unknown.

A new peacekeeping force called the Preventers has been created to make sure that an event as devastating as the war that has just ended will never happen again. Led by the unlikely figure of former OZ second-in-command Lady Une, the Preventers have recruited such talent as former Federation officer Sally Po, the famed Mobile Suit pilot Lucrezia Noin, and the man once known as the Lightning Baron Zechs Merquise: Milliard Peacecraft of the Cinq Kingdom. Joined in ranks by many civilians eager to keep the peace, the Preventers is a fast growing organization eager to prove its worth to the people.
