Construction of space colonies begins at Lagrange point 1 (L1). The project is complicated by difficult working conditions and conflicts between the sponsoring nations, and work proceeds very slowly.

December
Four out of the five countries originally sponsoring the L1 project (the United States, Germany, Japan, Australia, and United South America) become impatient with the slow progress and see the project as more trouble than it's worth. All nations pull out of the project except Japan, which finishes colony construction with its own manpower and budget. As a result, the majority of the settlers of the new colony are Japanese or Asian in origin.

Seeing the success of L1 in boosting the Japanese economy, the oil-rich countries of the Middle East decide to invest in the colony project. Colony construction begins at Lagrange points 2 through 5. The nations which scoffed at Japan's interest in the L1 project are now eager to join in, and there is a scuffle among countries to sponsor various colonies.

Disputes break out among Earth's nations, due to a shortage of colony construction materials. The Middle Eastern nations intercede and negotiate an end to the conflicts. Construction resumes, using asteroids as raw material.

An Island 2 type colony is completed at Lagrange point 1. Soon there are population centers composed of multiple colonies, popularly known as "colony clusters." As international disputes flare up on Earth, people escape these conflicts by emigrating to the colonies, and soon much of the human population is living in space.

Mindful of the growing problem of the Breaks, the L1 government decides to ignore it entirely and announces a formal relocation of their political and economic center to the neighboring L1 cluster A3602, leaving the Breaks entirely in the hands of organized crime.

Shionji Hisashi, the leader of the L1-based Shionji drug cartel, begins a systematic takeover of the Breaks.

October
The first of many small colonial uprisings takes place. The rebels proclaim their desire for independent colonial rule. The rebellion is quickly put down by colonial troops, and the governments on Earth threaten to send in more military forces if uprisings continue.

February
Various colonial groups supporting colonial independence agree to put aside their differences and join together to oppose the world government. This underground coalition is given the name Operation Meteor.

The genetic experiments known as Operation Ares begin on L1, funded by Operation Meteor and the Black Diamond Cartel. The first successful experiment is put into stasis.

"United Earth Sphere Federation" is established. One of the Federation's key financial supporters is the military-industrial combine called the Romefeller Foundation.

One by one, Earth's nations join the Federation. As their mother countries join, the colonies are also enrolled, willing or not. The colonies are critical of the Federation and its intentions, and the Federation decides to respond with force in order to silence its critics.

In the name of peace and justice, the Federation invokes the authority of its member nations to forcibly seize control of the colonies.

The second successful experiment for Operation Ares, on Shionji heir Shionji Hideki, is completed. Hideki is put into stasis.

The Shionji cartel finds out about the Operation Ares experiments and orders the scientists killed. Operation Ares is halted.

In order to peacefully oppose the Federation, the citizens of the colonies elect Heero Yuy as their representative. His charismatic leadership strengthens solidarity between the colonies. The Romefeller Foundation's OZ (Operation Zenith) subsidiary becomes a secret society.

The Operation Ares scientists reveal their ties to the Gundam scientists. Operation Meteor decides to incorporate the Gundams into their original plan.

Under the pretext of suppressing chaos in the colonies, the Federation again sends in the military, and the new mobile suits are first used in combat. All space colonies are placed under military control, and communication between colonies is prohibited.

Dorothy Catalonia born.

January-July
A radical new political movement, headed by León Catalonia II, the son of Duke Dermail, gains power in the Federation. This movement, made up of mostly younger, idealistic politicians from aristocratic European families, believes in the ideals of Heero Yuy and wishes to negotiate for peace with the colonies. The charismatic presence and strong words of Catalonia and his supporters sway many older Federation leaders. Catalonia's philosophy becomes known as the Federation Peace Movement.

Doctor J, Professor G, Doktor S, Instructor H and Master 0 design the Wing Gundam Zero. OZ discovers their whereabouts, and they are forced to end their collaboration, split up, and go underground.

December 15
A group of high-ranking representatives from the Federation, including León Catalonia II, are sent to colony L3 to try to negotiate terms for peaceful Federation rule of the colonies. The conference lasts for nine days, but neither side is able to come to agreement.

December 24
León Catalonia II and the other Federation representatives board a shuttle from L3 back to Earth. The shuttle is hijacked by colony rebels which belong to an offshoot group of Operation Meteor. The rebels broadcast the hijacking to the Federation Headquarters on earth and then blow up the shuttle in a suicide attack. All aboard are killed. León is survived by his wife Emily Khushrenada Catalonia and his two-year-old daughter Dorothy.

August 29
The Federation decides to stage a military intervention in the Cinq Kingdom. Princess Relena Peacecraft is rescued and adopted by his trusted aide Darlian. Prince Milliard Peacecraft disappears.
Events of Blessed

October 14
Conflict breaks out in Eastern Europe. The Bloom family's wagon is caught in the crossfire between Federation forces and rebels; Catherine Bloom survives, but her parents and her baby brother Triton are believed to be killed. Catherine is taken in by her parents' circus troupe.

AC 184

The original Operation Ares genetic testing facility is found by a minor cartel on L1. The cartel leaders decide to free the two humans in stasis, including Shionji Hideki.

May
A virus breaks out at L2's V08744 colony. An antidote is developed, but is not provided to the poorer and less desirable colonists. Among the unwanted is a gang of orphans led by a boy named Solo; a member of his gang steals the antidote from an Federation base, but too late to save Solo. Dying, Solo promises to be with his friend forever, and the seven-year-old boy thus adopts the name "Duo." Though Duo didn't get enough antidote for himself, he never contracts the virus, and attributes this to Solo's watching over him.

After this, Duo and his fellow urchins are taken in by V08744's Maxwell Church. While the other boys are soon placed with foster homes, Duo ends up living at the church with the Reverend and kindly nun Sister Helen. Since Duo refuses to have his long hair cut, Sister Helen braids it for him.

January
Another uprising takes place at L2's V08744. Rebels seize the Maxwell Church, and when the Reverend urges them to lay down their arms and follow Heero Yuy's path of peace, they accuse him of being an Federation spy. The rebels agree to leave the church if Duo can steal them a mobile suit, but when he returns to the church with his booty, he finds that the Federation has attacked and razed it. 245 people are killed in the "Maxwell Church Massacre," including the Reverend and Sister Helen.

The boy known as Heero Yuy carries out a sabotage mission, blowing up a Federation base inside a space colony. Due to miscalculation, the explosion causes civilian casualties, including a little girl and her puppy.

July
The Federation condemns the aging colony A0206. Rather than attempt to resettle its inhabitants, the fierce Long clan, General Septem orders that they be wiped out with biological weapons. Treize Khushrenada, preferring conventional warfare, dispatches a Specials force to destroy the colony before the Federation's biological weapons unit arrives. Long Meilan, granddaughter of matriarch Long Shilin, battles the Specials mobile suits using a reconstructed Tallgeese; her husband, the scholarly Chang Wufei, comes to her aid in the incomplete Shenlong Gundam. The Specials' attack is repulsed, and the Federation's biological weapons are destroyed. Federation officer Sally Po reports that the mission was successful, ensuring that A0206 will be left alone in the future.

Meilan, mortally wounded in the battle, dies in Wufei's arms. Wufei, who had once mocked his wife's conviction that she was the reincarnation of the legendary hero Nataku, gives this name to the Shenlong Gundam in Meilan's memory. He tells Master O that he will pilot the Shenlong as part of Operation Meteor.

Gundam Shenlong attacks the Lake Victoria OZ Specials Military Academy. Five hundred OZ cadets and officers are killed.

Gundams attack a Federation meeting at the New Edwards base. The Federation's military leaders are killed.
OZ discards its Specials cover and launches "Operation Daybreak", overwhelming the Federation's terrestrial forces and seizing control of Earth.

Eve Wars begin.
Treize Khushrenada is killed in battle, and the World Nation surrenders. Milliard Peacecraft disappears.
