To Catch A Falling Star
Author: Shun'u no Miko
Email: shunu_no_miko@yahoo.com
Warnings: Spoilers for Episode 48. Pretty violent and bloody.
Type: Deathfic

Tasuki's Review Tasuki:

Hm...a bit long and drawn out, but I liked it! Some of the battle gore seemed like Shun'u no Miko was trying too hard. A spear through the chest should spill blood, but it would take a bit to spill innards. Unless it speared one organ and pushed it out through the exit hole. A sword would spill the innards, though...and the belly holds more of the loose stuff...

*trails off to see the other seishi turning green*

Bwahah, yes, I DID head straight for the violence, didn't I? *cackles* Wooohooo!

It's even nicer to see a Hotohori fic. I find Hotohori is very ignored unless he's a supporting character in a Nuriko fic. I'm sure Heika will agree.

*claps* I applaud the violence, but don't try so hard next time, ne? Just relax, breathe, good....

And um, I don't believe we use wedding bands. That was a thing Miaka came up with.

*sweatdrops* *glances at the fic again* You'd make a great interrogator with these techniques, you know?

Chichiri's Review Chichiri:

*swallows hard*

Yes, a battlefield is bloody and horrific, but still..such descriptions no da! This is a fic -not- to read while eating dinner no da! And Tasuki is correct, wedding bands are unknown in our time. But it is good to read Hotohori in such a heroic pose no da. One can just see the Emperor battling it out, too bad he didn't even get in a good blow to Nakago. Oh well, we won in the end no da!

Mitsukake's Review Mitsukake:

@_______@ *is looking more than a little green* Merph.

I agree, some of the battle scenes were a bit unrealistic. (Though very real, if you catch my meaning. *shudder*) It's not too blatant, actually-only hardcore violence fans *coughTASUKIcough* and people who've studied the inner workings of the human body are likely to notice. (Honestly, you'd THINK I'd be used to this, but nooooo! *_*) For instance, I don't think an arrow could necessarily crush bone, as they seem to usually stab rather deeply and nastily into flesh and muscle instead. Never mind that the human eye is a TINY target...

*cough* But, beyond technical details, this is a masterpiece of a fanfiction. The opening verse, the *ahemVIVIDahem* detail, the inner workings behind that short exchange between Hotohori and Nakago, and the epilogue that so perfectly wraps the whole thing up, each of the parts woven together into what is undoubtedly the BEST fic I've ever seen about this event. ^_^

Now, if you'll excuse me, this fic has also given me the uncontrollable urge to go heal something. *bleh*

Nuriko's Review Nuriko:

*Glances at Tasuki's review, swallowing hard* Ne, you did go right for the violence in this one, didn't you? At first, I wasn't certain if I would like this one, simply because the graphic nature of the war was so intense... but after reading through it, I realized that it was the highly detailed descriptions that made it come alive in my mind's eye. Indeed, we usually see Heika-sama playing a supporting role in fics, and it was refreshing to see him given his own spotlight in this one.

All in all, this was a very well done fic, I thought. I caught one grammatical error and that was quickly overlooked as the vivid imagery took over. The detail was absolutely wonderful and let me picture everything as if I were standing there. I think that even if I hadn't seen this scene in the series, there would be no doubt in my mind as to how it appeared. Even though I *have* seen it, it still gave a different perspective, going far deeper into Heika-sama's thoughts and the reasoning behind his actions.

As for Tasuki's critique of the battle scene, I can't really say for certain just how it could have been made better... I'll leave that for the more violent among us. *Grin*
